Staying safe on Savvy Mover

Buying or selling directly puts you in control. A few sensible habits keep it that way.

Last updated: 3 June 2026

How we help

Every listing is reviewed before it's published, and every buyer shares their position before requesting a viewing or making an offer. That gives you a head start, but you know your situation best, so the tips below are worth following too.

For sellers

Verify before you view

Every buyer shares their position, chain status and funding before requesting a viewing. Read it, and feel free to ask follow-up questions before you agree a time.

Stay safe at viewings

Where you can, have someone with you. Let a friend or family member know who's coming and when. Keep valuables out of sight and don't share personal routines.

Keep records

Keep enquiries, viewing requests and offers within the platform where possible, so there's a clear record of what was agreed and when.

For buyers

Check the details

Listings are reviewed before they go live, but always verify the important facts (tenure, price and condition) independently before you commit.

Protect your money

Never transfer a deposit or fees on the strength of an email or message alone. Pay only through your solicitor or conveyancer, and confirm account details by phone using a number you trust.

Trust your instincts

If something feels off, for example pressure to move quickly, requests for unusual payments, or a refusal to involve professionals, pause and report it.

Always use a professional for the legal bit

Savvy Mover is not an estate agent, and nothing here is legal, financial or conveyancing advice. We give you the tools to connect; we don't handle the sale itself.

Before money changes hands, always instruct a qualified solicitor or licensed conveyancer, and consider an independent survey and financial advice. A sale in England and Wales only becomes binding on exchange of contracts handled by your solicitor, never on a message or a handshake.

Spotted something wrong?

You can report any listing using the “Report listing” link on its page, or email [email protected]. If you feel at risk or believe a crime has taken place, contact the police.

Important safety note. This guidance is provided for convenience and is not legal or professional safety advice. It does not replace advice from your solicitor, conveyancer, lender, surveyor, insurer or the police.
